We always listen to the prints. Sometimes we try to ignore them, and honestly, we could if only they didn’t whisper so darn loud…

For Wildflower, they held my face close, looked me straight in the eye and said,  BALI!!! So of course, off we went.

We ventured to the foothills of Bali’s cultural heart, with it’s dense jungle of tall, proud palms, rice paddies and steep ravines. The deep Jurassic green of the jungle was the perfect backdrop for the Wildflower palate; the playful amber, turquoise and lavender florals found in our Babushka print (I called it Babushka because the print reminded me of those ornate painted little Russian Babushka dolls) and all our gorgeous Sienna Whites and Panther Khaki’s… it was like this wonderful psychedelic Indiana Jones throwback, rope bridge and all!

Our muse was Australian-Russian Anja Konstantinova, she’s such a little pixie and with her faint Russian accent I couldn’t help but think of her as our little Babushka doll! The green of the jungle and the palate of the collection popped so magically against her alabaster skin and ash blonde hair. One evening as we all knelt at a long dinner table filled with tropical flowers and delectable Indonesian dishes she told us that she practices floristry in London and that she felt so connected with Wildflower.

This shoot was special for me, I had my husband and two sisters by my side and my little kids in a treehouse not 50 feet away ~ over the course of the few days, the whole team felt like family. I honestly didn’t want to leave this magical wonderland. I think (the already insta-famous) Bambu Indah (which is where we shot a large part of the campaign) is my tropical spirit-home and I’m hoping that they’ll have me back soon as I don’t think I’ll be able to stay away long.
